Android Developer (SDK)

Job description

Fourthline is a leading Fintech scale-up that has been growing massively in the Identity & verification (ID&V) space for the past 3 years. Focusing our energy and growth on our product for our clients. For our mobile team this means a great native SDK that is consumed by our clients, our own native app and more projects and other products are incoming! And for that we could really use your help in our mobile team!

The foundation of this is a product that we are proud of and ready to take to the next level by extensive automation and expert knowledge. Our mission is to protect the online financial system by offering the most innovative technologies to develop the safest and most customer-friendly digital ID&V solution. If you like to work on products and services that make a real impact on society this could be the thing for you!

The team

In the last 3 years, our team has grown massively (from 20 to +220 peeps) and the plan is to keep growing in the coming years. With offices in Barcelona and Amsterdam that combine around 45 nationalities from all over the world, we think and act internationally.

The mobile team consists of 6 developers (3 iOS and 3 Android), our team lead, our QA Engineer and our PO. You will work with Vadym, Ege and Sergii as our 4th Android developer, and help them bring our SDK and native app(s) into complete sync!

Your mission

You will continue to build a kickass SDK that will influence the lives of millions of users! Flawless on-boarding while opening a new bank account is what we bring to our clients! Therefore, we need your skills for:

  • Our SDK. An ever ongoing project where we improve production and integration for our clients (and align our features with the iOS SDK)
  • Improve the SDK unit testing coverage to >80% (not there yet, but getting there!)
  • Improve customer satisfaction (no escalations and crashes, constantly improving retention etc.)
  • Bring more AI/ML capabilities to the SDK (currently we’re working with ML Kit from Google)
  • We’re also supporting documents with NFC chips, so the technology should be fully integrated into our SDK
  • Security is our top concern, we can’t afford losing a single bit of client’s data
  • Working on our apps to showcase our great product

Why do you want to work here?

  • Working with the latest tech in Kotlin and some Computer Vision frameworks
  • A super strong team with senior skills. Vadym + Sergii + Ege (awesome Android devs), Denys + Vlad + Andrei (great iOS devs), Eduardo (best team lead) Priti (out Mobile QA) and our awesome PO that can all help you grow and the other way around!
  • Keen eye on your career development and personal growth
  • The freedom to make choices in our tech, roadmap, and architecture
  • Your fruit of labor will be used by many consumers and customers.

The tech we use

Languages: a lot of Kotlin (SDK and Apps), a bit of Java (samples for clients), a bit of JavaScript (cross-platform bridges), a bit of Groovy (some leftover build scripts)

Distribution: GitHub, Azure DevOps using Gradle/Maven

Frameworks/Libraries: Google ML Kit (OCR, Face Detection, Barcode scanning), Android NFC, Bouncy Castle, Coroutines, Dagger, Dokka, Camera2, Appcompat family, Firebase products

Unit testing: JUnit, Mockito, Espresso , Barista

minSdkVersion: 21, but we’re moving to 23 ASAP

Methodology: Agile/Scrum, CI/CD

Also: Architectural and software patterns, SOLID

Now that we told you about Fourthline, can you introduce yourself? Hopefully, this starts with …

As an Android developer, I know a lot about unit testing and I write clean code. I have great skills in Kotlin, worked with the latest frameworks and I'm excited to learn the next new technology in my stack. And almost without saying... I am a great team player!

Job requirements

  • +5 years of experience as a developer (mostly mobile)
  • Great working knowledge on the more recent Kotlin versions and Android frameworks
  • Team player mentality
  • Great understanding about clean code and unit testing (very important to us)
  • Experience with building (in) an SDK would be great...

...Also awesome would be if you also have...

  • Understanding of computer vision techniques
  • Agile understanding and way of working
  • Backend oriented attitude, since we work on an SDK, we focus less on UI work.

Liked what you read and are now wondering what you can expect from us?

At Fourthline, we care about attracting and retaining the best people and that is why we offer:
